Restaurants in Dahab
There are many restaurants in Dahab, but witch one to choose
is a difficult task. Most of the time you don't choose a restaurant,
but the restaurant choose you. Many of them have hired staff
that has a full time position working with just getting you
inside the doors with the promise of discounts you can only
dream of in the restaurant next door.
We have lived here in Dahab for many years and we have been
in pretty much all of them so we will help you in your choice
because there is many good restaurants in Dahab that even
exceeds European standard. I can not go through them all so
i have compiled a top 10 list of the restaurants you should
try in Dahab and some of the food they do good.
So here is Stay Young Hotels recommendations for Dahab restaurants.
I reviewed it after different criteria like value for money,
overall price, taste, location, setting and service.
*1 Shams Restaurant
This
restaurant is a fairly new, but old restaurant at the same
time. Shams have been here for ages, but was not really famous
or recommended, but one of the most respected restaurant owners
in Dahab took over and the restaurant bloomed. The restaurant
opened 2009 and surprised many with the quality of the food.
They treat the locals and Egyptian with the same respect
as the day tourists and the waiters or good working, polite
and have been in the game for a long time. The serving is
fast and the food looks appealing to the eye. Well portioned
dishes and you get more than you paid for. The prises are
low and as a tourist you can easily afford to stay there all
day ordering the first thing that comes to mind.
Some of the dishes i would recommend are. Steak, all the
steak's are from high quality imported meat from south America,
its tender and tasty. Chicken De Marengo, a mix of shrimps
and chicken in a beautiful half creamed sauce, lots of shrimps,
chicken and prepared with perfection.
*2 Funny Mummy
Maybe
one of the most popular restaurants over a long period here
in Dahab. They have great staff and good food for a low price.
Without doubt it was the biggest restaurant in Dahab, but
did last month close down around two thirds of the restaurant
because of the new management.
Nice food where you get good portions and you get the service
that you should in a restaurant. Most of the food is really
good, but it can be a bit different from time to time.
I recommend the chicken Portuguese where you get sliced chicken
fillet in a spicy tomato and orange sauce. The kebab halla
is another good option if you like to eat some dark meat,
well done slices of steak in a pepper sauce with red paprika
and onion.
*3 The Kitchen
A
new restaurant that looks great, well trained staff (a bit
to well trained for my taste). It is a good restaurant for
a romantic setting, but they aimed a bit wrong with the menu.
They serve Thai, Chinese and Indian food. It is very good
food and made in a visual appealing way.
The Food is good, but it is a bit expensive if you are living
here and the staff seems to be well trained in making you
buy. The food is good, but not fantastic. A good place if
you want to eat asian food with your girlfriend and you have
the budget for it.
The Peking duck is very good and comes with all the accessories
it is supposed to come with. They have a wide variety of curries
for those who like spicy food, really good and really tasty.
*4 Blue House
Blue
house is a good restaurant that is more famous between the
locals than the tourist. This is mostly because it opens after
6 and its closed some days during the weeks so most people
have no idea when its open or its closed, but if you find
it step inside.
Very good and authentic Thai food for a good price. The restaurant
doesn't hold that many people and the serving is not that
fast, but the food is excellent and the staff are friendly.
The food is not to spicy because the special Thai chili sauce
is served at the side so you can choose how you want it.
I was eating a lot of pad Thai gai in Thailand but it was
never as good as the pad Thai in Blue house Dahab.
*5 Shark
Shark
is a very typical Dahab restaurant, but they do it well. It
is not that busy but it has a good atmosphere and is a quite
underrated restaurant in town. They have good food and the
staff is friendly. Most likely the reversed bouncer outside
the restaurant will probably offer you a good deal and it
is.
It is a big area and its in the center of the lighthouse
area, nice outdoor wood structure that looks good. They usually
offer drinks and starter included with the main dish.
Try their calzone or their gratinated chicken. Most of Dahab
do have bad pizzas and you cant find a calzone anywhere but
here and it good its really good.
*6
Chinese Restaurant
The Chinese restaurant probably have the biggest menu in
town and its fairly good if you are into Chinese food. The
problem is only that the chef and the owner is Chinese and
don't speak a word English so there is a bit of communication
problem. The menu is good and you probably haven't heard of
half of it.
Most of the things as i mentioned are stuff don't really
know what it is and somethings you dont want like fermented
meat. I don't know why you would advertise the fermented meat,
but they have a lot of really nice dishes.
I can recommend the boiled garlic beef and the fried noodles
with beef or chicken. They have nice spring rolls and many
other things. If you know Chinese food you will find what
you want and they do it well.
*7 Blue Beach
This
is a place most famous for their pub the furry cup, but they
still have some of the best food in town. It is a bit in the
outskirts of Dahab, but its not to far and its an enjoyable
walk down there. Grab a beer and a big burger and enjoy the
British atmosphere.
The prices are a bit high according to the Dahab standard,
but as a tourist you can most likely afford it and it is worth
it. The restaurant looks nice and you can also get served
in the bar.
The highest recommendation is on the home made burgers that
really makes the mouth watering and the steaks are also good.
*8 King Chicken
King Chicken is a very famous restaurant in Dahab for no
apparently good reason. They serve grilled chicken and it
is served Egyptian style, that means a lot of different side
dishes that are very traditional in the Egyptian meals.
The location is probably the most important benefit of this
restaurant, it is pretty much in the middle of Dahab. They
have other dishes as well as chicken, like kofta and other
traditional Egyptian meals. The food is cheap and you get
full, probably more a place for back packers then the average
tourist.
Chicken is good for the price you pay and the side dishes
makes it all worth it.
*9 Eldorado
Eldorado
is an excellent restaurant in Dahab only problem being that
the prices are high and its far away from the center of Dahab.
This is an Italian restaurant with an Italian Chef and the
food is really good. Probably the only place in Dahab you
can get a proper pizza.
It is all the way at the end of the beach and the place is
really cozy, its recommended for all the people who liked
Disney`s lady and the tramp. The chef is a professional and
they have a wide menu of high quality authentic Italian food.
Lasagna Bolognese is a safe bet and it is incredibly tasty
and the price is good. Like i mentioned this is the place
in Dahab for a proper pizza if you are willing to take the
walk.
*10 Shark for fish
Shark for fish is a very special restaurant and i don't recommend
this for firs timers. It is a local Egyptian restaurant in
the Bedouin village Asala. They have incredible low prises
for some of the best Egyptian food in town, specially their
grilled fish for around $2.
The location is not that good if you haven't been here for
some time. Asala is not a area for tourists, its very safe,
but its also very dirty, goats in the street and no tourists.
The food is excellent and you get enoug side dishes to eat
for two days and the price is unbeatable anywhere else in
Dahab. If you are a backpacker and don't mind the neighborhood
try it.
The fish is cheap well prepared with good spices. They have
home made kofta witch you should try if you liked kofta anywhere
else.
